My friends 94 Grand AM 3.1, has some weird heating issues. As you start to accerate and keep the rpms above like 2200 it will blow hot air and as you decelerate the air gets cooler and when you come to a stop it blows cold air. Other things I noticed: the temp gauge never goes past the midway point although I was told it will, coolant starts pissing out of the resivour (I don't think the fan is coming on, at least it didn't when I turned the AC on), the water pump is pretty noisey and gets louder as engine load increases. I don't think it's the thermastat because if it was stuck open it would take forever to get hot air, which isn't the case here. And if the thermastat was stuck closed it would just overheat all the time which it doesn't. Even if the fan wasn't coming on in traffic, I don't see how it could blow cold air since the car should be getting hotter without it. The water pump is noisey but I would think if it's bad it would overheat alot which it doesn't. Anyone have a clue?
