The other thing is most home audio speakers are also magnetically shielded so that they don't interfere with the television and distort not only the screen, but the colors...if you do decide to do it...make sure the sub is as far away from your television as possible to avoid any interference. It is doable though...If you'd like you can get a very large AC to DC converter (I've seen them because we used them in our scorpion demo car) and then wire up a car amp and then just run your signal wires from the back of your stereo into the inputs of the amp. Again that's if you want to go about doing it that way...other people may have better ideas.
