As long as you don't fry the voice coil they are pretty easy to fix, so go for it, or better yet just get a bass cd to tune with and just step it up until you reach a comfortable level for yourself. That's how I tune my system. Got to ask yourself what are you going for alot of low freq bass, and not a lot of audio,or a complete music experience with good audio and bass.
