I've got a remote start as part of my alarm but I didnt do the install. Not familiar enough with cars and car electronics to attempt it.
If I remember right there is an additional module that you need to buy for the Alero to bypass the passlock (I think thats what its called). Without the module the remote start wont work. I think there was a post a while back about this that listed the part name for the bypass.
If not I'll check when I get home, I think have the part info with my alarm stuff.
