Yes, flushing it when you're supposed to is a good idea. When you get past that it's sketchy... sometimes it'll help a lot, sometimes it's best left alone. When a trans wears, all the bits and pieces are left floating in the trans. Eventually, all that's gripping to the clutch material is the gunk in the fluid. Getting rid of that gets rid of your friction and with new fluid you'll just slip.
