if you don't want chimes, you can just connect the aftermarket to the existing wiring setup. then toss the old radio. (or sell it on here if someone needs one)

and the reason to run a wire over to the fuse box is to provide accessory power since most headunits have more features/power draw that you want to have fused before it enters the radio.

but honestly, if your complaining about having to run some wires, maybe changing the radio isn't for you...
