If you get a vinyl one cut it will be really thin. I got a brushed aluminum dash kit off ebay and installed it VERY CAREFULLY, once you touch it to the hard plastic of your car you can't move it. Its pretty thick as its platic thats poured into moulds the shape of your car parts. it has really strong 3m sticky glue on the back, and has stayed on without any problems for over a year now. I'd recommend it over painting, as i've seen imports done and the paint always seems to weat off. heres a pic, i have a brushed aluminum quage bezel installed as well, good luck.
