Ok, easy.

First and foremost anything over 2 Farad is a bunch of tiny capacitors, not one big one. Therefore the damage if a cap blows is small. If that was a big round one, look out...

Now onto the real topic...

Take the fuse out of your positive wire up front. Wire the positive to the positive and negative to negative. Note that the positive has a wire coming in and on the same terminal a wire going out.

Now take the resistor and put it across both the = and -

Replace the fuse up front. This keeps you away should it explode and allows you to hook it up without any power being applied...

The resistor slows the charge up a little for initial charge.
