If your remote start is aftermarket, there is a module that has been installed (probably under your drivers side dash somewhere) to bypass the security system. If it was not adjusted correctly and matched to your key, it will throw on the security light and you will not be able to start your car. I've installed remote starts on Alero's and Malibu's, and the bypass module is always a pain in the ass to get adjusted. Find out what brand name is installed, find their website, and get the instruction book for whatever type of bypass module you have. Recalibrate per the instructions.
