First off welcome, second, I cant really agree with which one is better... I have blown up both... the 2.4 in my cavalier, disintegrated crank and bearings, 3400 in the alero, spun bearings due to LIMG  the only alero motor I havent tried is the 2.2 eco... but my best friend has blown his up twice... lol... first time was bottom end, second was top end... so good luck with your car!!!
