Parts places do sell bandage style wrap-on repair kits that I have seen work quite well when done carefully (use goggles and a good wire brush).
Don't panic, check everything, post more pics if you want. It's not likely to get much worse very fast but it won't go away without some effort. Money is always a concern and if things don't have to be replaced... Good Luck!
