DeeJayy - find someone with a full OBDII reader (or spring for one for your car - you can use a Bluetooth adapter and a free program for an Android phone, total can be under $30 that way!) and find out what temp the ECU is seeing from the car.

As a note - most of today's cars won't turn on the fans at ALL until the ECU sees 205F coolant temp. On my Malibu, that's about 3/4 of the way from "C" to "F", and getting darn close to the red mark ... YMMV, which is why you should monitor the ECU directly.
