I didn't use the backing from the original led strips. If I end up getting rid of the car, I'm keeping the lights. What I did was buy double sided tape and placed that on the paint. It's the same thing as having those vent visors that don't go into the window channel. That's why I didn't care. That shit is worthless and peels off with hot water and patience. Won't damage the paint. I've taken those vent visors off before.
Anyways, what you could do is find a way to hide the strip so it's not as obvious and cut yourself a foot of LED. BTW I had actually taken 3 LED's off. It's less brighter now. It looks like what Lexus and BMW are trying to do with their plate lights.

you used the part that had the wire already stuck to it. You will have to solder the rest of that roll though if you use it. Just so you know!
