Suggestions on replacement tires

Hello all,

Does anyone have an suggestions on replacement tires for my 2000 GLS alero. I am running up close to 60000 mile and I am now needing to replace my factory tires.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on what tires would be the best to get. I live in Louisiana, so not much snow driving. Mostly rain and heat.

Firestone/Bridgestone Potenzas are really good, but they are quite pricey...but if you get the "W" speed rating and drive grampa style, they will last quite a while.

Are you planning on getting new rims and tires or just replacing the factory tires?
I just replaced my factories with the same BF Goodrich tires.

On the Bridgestone Potenza are you talking about the all weather tires or the High proformance tires? I would like to keep it under $500 total, if that is possible and still get good tires.

I am just replacing the tires, they are worn. A new baby comming soon is currently taking my money, so I can't get the new rims I want.

I have Potenzas on my Alero with stock rims, they are awesome tires. Great wet weather traction and great performance in the dry as well. Mine have a T speed rating. Model number is the RE910.

I've worn a bit off of the front but I was being a moron and roasting them. I've probably done one of the best burnouts in an Alero before, probably even topped ski's where you couldn't even see his car. I was doing the McDonalds tray donuts where you put the trays under the rear tires and set the parking brake. After pulling out of one of the donuts I romped the gas and had the tires smoking for about a minute straight. Oh well, I still have at least 40 or 60k miles left in those tires as long as I don't do stupid crap like that again.

The Potenzas were $128 a piece for 225/50-16's. So that would make your total $512. But this time of year, there are plenty of deals because the spring makes us men horny for our cars and stores take advantage of that. Just do a little price shopping, and don't be afraid to ask the people at the tire stores if there are upcoming specials which would include the size you need. :thumbsup:

go to wal-mart. i got some douglas h-rated tires, and these things are champs. cost a lil over 300 total. you can get some really good warranties too

Try tirerack.com. Tires can be compared by test results.

I have Sumitoto's HTR+ " W " rated, all season, $85 a tire (225/45/17's) and rate better than tires costing 2x as much

i got the Bridgestone Potenzas 910's end of last summer, and nad to replace the front two at the end of winter, they had great dry and wet traction, but really bad snow.... even tho it said it got a better rating then the stock tired i had on there in snow... then agian, i may have been a lil rough on the tires round corrners and on ramps and such no real burn outs though

Found alot of good reviews on Toyo Proxes 4 Tires. I can get W rated for around $90 a tire.

Anyone have commits about this one?

Get Sumitomo HTR+ tires. I got them, and love them. They are a really good all-around tire, and cheap! Mine were $115 each for 235/40/18. 16" will be a lot cheaper. Click through the tirerack banner to get them!

I have the Toyo Proxes FZ4's, but in 245/45-17. They are very loud tires. They seem to go good in the snow (yesterday was the first time they saw it), and others have said they handle very well in dry and wet conditions. But the noise is pretty annoying.

Your best bet is to go to tirerack, as someone else already mentioned, and read the reviews.

^really? do you find them loud just cruising? I don't find them any louder than stock, but maybe my stock tires were just loud. :S

For high performance all seasons, they are really decent on snow/ice. Better than potenzas. On the dry, they deffinately take alot more to break free than stock. For example, on corners where my stock tires could handle just over 60kph, these handle 80kph and still haven't complained at all.

I can say from a previous cars experience that potenzas are AWESOME on dry roads, especially when new.
