GM 3400 Model & Year Differences

Hello again.

Another question, another topic.

I want to start building up a 3400 from the ground and am looking ofr a 3400 for cheap but I need some information.

Is the GM 3400 motor the same among all the different cars in the same year regardless of car or suv? I found a 3400 motor with no accessories or wiring harness from a 99 Venture. Kind of curious if it is a direct replacement for my 02 3400 if it is rebuilt.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Timothy

The only one that has major differences is the Equinox and Torrent. The intake is completely different on them. Most of the others interchange. The injectors and fuel pressures are different (but can be swapped) on the '96-'99 versus the '00+ 3400s.

also, didn't they fix the intake manifold gaskets in '03+ engines?

But if someone was buying the engine to build it, that would be a moot point.

There is also a change in the EGR mounting from '96-'99 and '00+ They will interchange though.

Yep, definitely a moot point.

How significant are the upgrades? Enough to consider a swap?

well, I'll put it this way, I've watched people destroy 4t45's with under 10psi on '02 and older. However, my '03 is holding 12psi under daily abuse without complaining so far.

Check the GM tech bulletins for the specific upgrades that they made in '03.

Hmm... While I never found the GM T.B., there does seem to be a lot of information regarding the 4t45 and the 4t65. I'll have to do my research when I head back offshore. Thanks for the option on that one.
