New sub boxes
Im going to start a project when it gets warmer out, i plan on putting my 12s towards the back of the trunk, i cant explain this too well, but 1 will go on the back right in the corner, the other will go on the back left in the corner, im gonna make my own box,
but i have a few questions first, maybe some new ideas if you guys have some.
1st-what kind of wood should i use?
2nd-should i make them a certain size??(i will try and look up when i get home, i know theres shit on that, dont have time now, just figured id ask)
3rd-how could i mount these in the back corners so they dont move around?????
i will take a pic of the trunk and show you what i plan on doing when i get home later.....

mfb for the construction and you can anchor them into the trunk using small screws...as for the size, it depends on your subs as for the amount of air space they need.

thanks, yea i just thought about how to mount them, i cant beleive i didnt think of it before, just put those L brackets around them and screw em down.
as for my subs, i have 2 12" infinitys, each have MAX 1100 watts, i forget what the continuous power is..... i remember the box that they came in said "infinty 1242"....so if thats any help to you guys.
I need to know how big i should make each box, i mean i would like to do them as small as possible so i have more space in the trunk. theres a few reasons im doing this, 1-i want to be able to take my spare out if i get a flat, cause i have bad luck with tires on rims.
2-i would just like more room in the trunk
3-it would sound a little better, cause the subs would be facing towards the back of the back seats
4-they will look a lot better.
OH YEA, AND WHERE CAN I FIND SOME CARPET TO PUT DOWN TO MATCH THE TRUNK?????????????

I don't know for sure but try a fabric store. We have a place here called Tempe Sales (don't know if they have a web site you could order from) but they have rolls of carpet for covering boxes in all kinds of colors. You could totally redo your whole trunk (they have blue, red, green, gray, black, etc) but I'm sure you should be able to find something similar close to where you live.

oh ok, i mean i would rather get a matching carpet cause i dont feel like ripping everything apart, but if it comes down to it i might.
Im gonna e-mail the place i bought my box from and ask them if they know where to get some.....figured i would try that, they probably wont, but i guess i will find out.

dude, 1st of all, every audio shop will have carpet. 2nd of all, if you've never made a box before and don't know anything of what you're doing (which you dont), just have them made or buy pre-built. Your box is so important to how your subs will sound and any little bit you are off can result in some shitty sounds. Lastly, why in the hell would you put 12" infinity's facing each other on opposing sides of the trunk. I'd go 8 or 10" and have em fiberglassed nicely against the sides (out of the way)
*edit, i see you want them aiming towards the seats. Why not just get smaller subs and reverse your box in the back of the trunk. You'd save yourself so much time and trouble

hold on.....i want to put them in the back corners of the trunk, by the back i mean..........
say you were to pull your back seats down, then you look in the trunk from inside the car, i want to put 1 sub on the back left side, one on the back right side.
I want them out of the way, the box i have now is HUGE. There are a lot of people out there who make their own, i figured i would do it too. i want the boxes to fit good in the trunk, i dont want the big ass box i have now to take up all the space, so when i get a flat tire(if i do), i dont have to pull the whole box out of the trunk. I was thinking about just getting rid of the subs and buying some good speakers, but i love having subs.

oh ok..i can picture what you mean. I still say you are better off getting some smaller subs though..smaller subs means you can go smaller with the box, giving you more room obviously. Plus for the right price, your 10's can sound better and louder than 12's. most people assume i have 12's in mine but i just have 2 10" infinitys

size of the box directly correlates to the sound the subs can produce

MDF is the usual.
Some use HDF and some use partica board.
It all depend son what you want. You can go sealed and you can run them small and get some more power handling, or run them larger and loose a bit...
All depends.
Carpet can be had at most audio shops, but its expensive there. I get mine from parts Express, but I try to drive down and pick it up.
I can get a 48" wide and 5 yard piece for $20+ shipping if interested.

if you are willing to listen to more than just rap, 10's are probably better because of the response

Let me guess, they hit quicker?
Cone control only becomes an issue when you get into some 15s and 18s+...
Two 12's is the norm for most people...

i dont see a point in making 2 spereate boxes.. if you want the subs facing in the car, just turn the box around and if ur gonna do something fancy you might as well just plexiglass everything

ok, first things first, I have learned that subs usually sound much better when they face the rear of the car. I have always used 3/4 inch particle board for my boxes and have always been pleased with the sound. The biggest thing to remember is to make sure that the cubic feet are as close to what they recommend as possible, and that the boxes are sealed well. A bead of silicone on all joints works well. As far as securing them, you can either use velcro, or for something more permanent, just screw them down with small screws.
