Transmission Flush
Hey Everyone,
So I got a question. I have a 2002 3400 Alero. The car has almost 98k miles on it, most of these are highway miles. I have never had any transmission work done on it. This includes changing the fluid.
I was talking with my Dad, who owns a Chevy 2500, about the flush. He said don't do it. When he had his done, it created problems and those problems still persist.
Should I consider the flush or just a drain and fill?

When you drain a tranny you will not get all of it out. With a flush you will get alll out and replace it all as well. If not all then 98%. I had my flushed once when I owned it and was pleased. You won't increase your 0-60 by seconds or anything but it can be worth it.

I think what you're dad is trying to say here is that the old tranny fluid might be plugging any holes that might be in there and if you change it, you will blow the clumped up stuff out of those holes. I think you're better off to just get it changed.

So when i change my tranny fluid....not for a long time, but when i do.... i should just drain it and replace with stuff that the owners manual says to use...right? cause synthetic tranny fluid will cause our trannys to slip...

oh...and another question, why does synthetic cause the trannys to slip???? and would using synthetic in every car cause the tranny to slip..? or do they slip cause they used to have regular fluid in it and if you switch it will cause it to slip?
damn, im asking a lot of questions today! haha, but hey im learning

I'd say change it.
I had mine done at 61K, the tranny was slipping a little bit, but later I blew the tranny racing.
Had nothing to do with the changing of the fluid, I just beat the hell out of it  .
There is about 14 quarts of fluid in there, dropping the pan will only get out 3 or 4 quarts. It's gotta be hooked up to a machine that will suck all the fluid out. Cost about $100 to do at the dealership, and $82 of that it the new tranny fluid
