reversing the sub

what is the point, if any, of reversing the sub so that the magnet is on the out side of the sub box and the cone is pointing into the box? is it just to show off or is there some kind of reasoning for it

gain box space...which generally doesnt make a difference

Its mainly for looks.

Technical reason like extreme said, you gain box space, but its at the cost of the space in front of the box- so its really not good.

When you do this you must make sure to shift the polarity to the sub. Wether its at the amp (phase shift dial) or on the sub- switching around the + and -

Just to note: Some people have complained about subs mechanical noises. Also on many subs the XMech is less towards the magnet vs out from the basket.
