School's almost out so I'm going to be able to work some more and buy pretty things. I'm getting a buffer in a couple weeks to get some swirl marks out of my paint and then my next buy is going to be component speakers.
I've searched a lot already and talked to some people on the forum here too, but I'm looking for a little more info.
Obviously, I'd like to get some 6.5" into my doors, but 5.25" are are another option. I was looking at the Infinity 6000cs or the 5000cs because so far those seem to be the best speaker in my pricerange that will fit. According to Infinity's website, the 6000cs have a larger diameter but are shallower than the 5000cs. I know some people here have put the 6000cs in without much effort.
Im new to installs and since I'm on a budget I don't want to pay a shop to install them. Because of this I need something that will require little to no modding to fit, including the tweeters.
Basically I want to know what is the best option for a newbie installer to get some component speakers into the doors and fit right. Remember little to no modding would be best!

Hey.. if you are looking at getting the 6.5s I've got a set of these
speaker adapters that I would be willing to sell you. I mocked them up when I was doing my install but went with my custom mounts instead my speakers were just a little bit smaller so the holes didn't line up just right . I don't know about the Infinity series or how the depth would be...
The only thing I didn't test with them and might be a problem is that they r about an inch and a half thick all the way around and may bring the speaker out to much to get the door panel on.. But I'll sell them to you cheap just PM me or send an email

i have those mounts and i think they would be perfect on 6 1/2's.....my 5 1/4's are a lil small and the holes didnt match up, as far as depth they are about an inch 1/2 from the glass and the door panel went on relatively easy.........just had to guide it a lil more careful than usual.........

^sweet news, D. If the origional thread poster passes up those adapters, i'd love to take them of Mlc's hands.... the cheap 4x6 plates I'm running now leave MUCH to be desired in the mid range deptartment.

Thanks for the offer though mlcroy, but since I'm still about a month away from getting my speakers I'm gonna hold off for now.
That said, YB they are yours, but let us know how well they work out for you and with what speaker.
bigd, its good to know you used those and they worked out good. What 5.25" did you use?
It looks like buying those when I'm ready is the best option, so would all I have to worry about is the mounting depth of the speaker? The 6.5's are pretty slim, with a mounting depth just under 2" while the 5.25's are almost 2.5".
Looking at that, the 5.25" might not actually fit, so Id probably be better off with the 6.5's anyways

i went with infinity's and man it gets loud......i love loud music and have always had it that way......this is the first time i could turn it up so loud it hurt my ears and it still be really clean sound......i have it amped at only 45 watts rms to each speaker, if i went with like a 65x4 rms amp it would be perfect, and just what i need to balance the 2 15's i plan on in the trunk :0)

bigd - which infinity's did you use and how happy were you midbass wise?
As I said, I'm looking at using their 6000cs or 5000cs components. I've got an Infinity 10 in the trunk getting 225w rms and the amp will feed my front speakers 80w.
I'm lookin to hear more good (and bad) about Infinity components.

I've heard NOTHING bad about Infinity's component sets, Jiffy. From what I'm told, they're awesome bang-for-buck wise, and they're top of the line, sound-wise...
On a side note** As-per new Bazaar rules: I've payed MclRoy in full for those speaker adapters. Thanks again, Mike !

You might try diamond audio. They have a line of components that are designed for shallower installs. In my opinion, they are far superior to the infinity comps. I believe the 6.5's were about 280. It has been a year since I priced them last.

Since I'm a broke bitch, do you have any suggestions for those of us with (very) limited budgets, Mike? ( 6 1/2" components, FYI ) These will be run off the deck for now, until I get a small amp to run them....

YB - I hear ya about being broke too. In 6.5's the only thing I have heard of fitting was the Infinity 6000cs($120) or probably the new 6010cs ($220) and some Pheonix Gold.
There are other speakers, but they are too deep. I've tried doing some searching and it seems that Infinitys really are the best option for a low budget and with our car.
Cardomain Infinity 6000cs
Those are the 6000cs for about $120 shipped.
Let me know what you go with, because it looks like we will be taking a very similar path with our speakers...

Keep in mind that components are not the only way to go, or possibly even the best way to go. Companies have been merging components and integrated for some time. Like a hybrid. JL makes a nice integrated speaker with crossovers and eclipse has the point source two and three way series. CDT makes some as weel but I believe they are pricier. These are some very nice alternatives to components and can sound just as nice. In some cases even better. They won't have the power handling of components but will still get quite loud and stay clean with the crossovers. And since you are using a HU to power them, they will sound better than the components. Comps are power hoggs. They sound great at high volumes but lack the midrange deffinition of integrated at lower volumes. In all honesty, the only reason I have components in my doors is because they were already bought. I have used the point source 6x9's for years. Our test booths use the 6.5 point source two ways. I prefer there sound to my comps. The JL's range about 180 ( I think) and the point source two way is about 130 and the three way 160. Unfortunately, I don't have a cdt retailer. It would be interesting to see there price.

If you want something that is good for the money (cheap) I love my Phoenix Golds... As far as good or bad news on the Infinity I have never heard anything bad about them. I owned a set of 4x6 plates that were infinty and they sounded great.

I have 6.5" infinity components in my doors and I don't think they're that spectacular. I love the highs but there is little to no mid bass. As soon as I get some money saved up I replacing the 6.5" with CDTs and keep the tweeters.

mlcroy - which PG's do you have and how is their midbass?
jamcllw - www.thezeb.com has some CDT components for $150 plus shipping that I was looking at, but they are waaay to deep to fit unless you do some serious modding. They are 2 7/8" deep, and I know 2.5" is a tight squeeze for our cars...
I'm having 2nd thoughts about the Infinitys because I don't think my stock 4x6's sound all that bad with the sub and because if I'm gonna buy speakers I want to know there will be a dramatic difference from how it sounds now.

There was a huge difference in sound when the components got put in. I went from some Pioneer 4x6s to them and there was a world of difference.

Here is a link to those CDTs I mentioned:
CDT Components
I think the depth is either 2 7/8 or 2 13/16 though
If someone could get these to fit, I'd sh!t, then buy them...

You will have to do some modding. My eclipse components are the same depth and no way would they just drop in. The price on those are great. I am seriously going to have and concider replacing my current comps with those.

I have the ZRs and the midbass is not half bad, but I don't know there full extent as they are still being played un amped off of the stock HU. I'm going to be amping them and replacing my HU in the next week. So I'll be able to get a better feel for them!
