fan belt squeeking
Ok here's the deal guys; for about the past month my serpentine belt has been squeeking. It only squeeks for a few minutes after I start my car, and then it stops. anybody know whats up? I think it has to do with the tension, Iv'e replaced it once, with no effect. I don't trust any of the shops around where I live..It's really annoying

well, our cars don't have fan belts. we do have serpentine belts that run the engine accessories. If replacing the belt hasn't worked, it could be your water pump, idler pulley, or alternator going bad.

well.. it is spring time. and by driving through water i dont mean driving into a lake.. i mean hitting water puddles like the amount of water in the curbs and what not.. enough water to splash on your windshield.. that will make the belt squeek but it should quit once it drys

there shouldn't be that much water getting up in there. plus the previous owner had the issue, and she lived in south Cali. for a month before she moved up here.

Try a little bit of hand soap on the belt
Maybe the belt isn't "glazed"

gatorbacks rib design is different it has notched ribs instead of solid strait ribs which allows the ribs to contact the pulley grooves more effectively.

I had the same problem this entire winter only squeaks when its wet out. Once its dry the sqeak goes away on mine. Im going to get a new gatorback belt when I get a tune up next month. I heard good things about them from everyone I know.

I'm having the same problem too but i don't live anywhere close to were water can affect the serpentine belt(I live in a desert in South Cali).
Well i know one of the members (but i cant remember who, sorry) suggested to turn on the a/c so that the belt starts up then start the car.
It worked for me except that some times the squeak turns into a screech from hell. I'm thinking of getting that gatorback that everyone keeps taking about.

whoever told you that is mildly retarded. the cooling fans and blower motor are electric, not belt driven. its not possible to start the belt prior to starting the car lol sure by turning the a/c on the compressor is engaged putting more stress on the belt, but if doing that fixes it you are only hiding the problem. the most critical part of belt squeak is figuring out where the squeak is originating and go from there.
