Ignition Switch Help
So today i let my dad drive my car today. so he comes home and asks me how i shut off my car. This got me worried.
I looked at the ignition switch and now it does not turn all the way to the left, thus leaving the battery on. Is there a way to fix this because now i dont even need a key to start my car.
I took off the clamp around the ignition switch and i noticed that you have to take off the whole dash to unscrew the screw. Who should i bring it to to fix, and how much will it cost?

You might try to put the car in neutral, pull the ebrake, and then be able to shut the car completely off. I've never had to do it with the Alero, but some of my past cars have done it. If that works then you have something wrong with your park switch, as previously mentioned.

i tried all the tricks but still doesnt turn off.
its like my key isnt the right key for the ignition.
instead of it sliding in smoothly, i have to kind of force it in

i paid $210 at the dealership because i couldn't find one anywhere else at the time. also i have heard sometimes you have to replace the ignition switch along with the cylinder.... that was another $200

im just thinking i might just need a new lock cylinder. is it possible to just switch it out and use the same harness?
and is it really necessary for me to bring it to a mechanic or is it a DIY kinda thing

you can definitely do it yourself. took me maybe 20 minutes. make sure you get another key cut for the new cylinder tho cause the old key wont work. also if you get it from a dealership use the instructions haha.
