Do you have any kind of shift enhancer on the car? Sounds like the tranny is starting to let lose, possibly in the valvebody.

Car is bone stock... So does that mean I'll have to get a whole new tranny or is it something they can just replace on the old one?

How many miles on the car? How old is the car?

The Haynes manual states that you should change the trans fluid every 48 months or 60,000 miles.

I just had mine done and so far, it shifts very smooth.

If you take it to the dealer they can suck out all 14 quarts of it and replace it, do it yourself, you'll only get 4 quarts

Yeah, I would recommend flushing out the tranny and replacing the filter first. If that doesn't solve it, then I would go to have it looked at.

It's a 2001 with 63K on it.

Ok so it's a sealed tranny and you have to suck it out? My mechanic of a BF is an idiot then. He told me it couldn't be changed. HA! I finally know something he doesn't! I ROCK! Thanks guys!

Yeah, you can either get it flushed, kind of the same way they flush you coolant, or you can remove the the drain pan on the bottom of the tranny. If you want to change the filter, you have to remove the pan.

If you just drop the pan, you will only get about 4 quarts of fluid out, but you have access to the filter to change it. You then just add back the amount of fluid that came out. This can be done in any garage (but it can be messy).

Now, the other option is to take it to a shop that has the capabilities to completely flush the system, getting all of the old fluid out of the torque converter, etc. This requires a machine that hooks up to the cooling line to force the old fluid out and the new fluid in. I just had this done, and had them put in 3 quarts of synthetic fluid and the rest regular fluid. Cost was $125.00, but it won't be needed again for some time. To me it was worth it.

When I dropped the pan, I got a lot more than four quarts out. I replaced eight quarts.

Thanks 3.4alero for the price quote. Fortunately for me I work for a Honda dealer owned by a Olds dealer so I get a discount But now I know the range. Appreciate all the help! Maybe one day she'll be running right!
