Engine Code ?

I have Alero 3,4 l . Where I can find engine code(number) ?

look at the dash from outside the car, driver side

and i thought i was far. poland is way farther. Just check the VIN number i belive that the 4th through 8th numbers are for engine codes. But if you already know that youve got a 3.4...?
