Neon In The Winter?

Ive heard both sides. Its fine and no way take it off. mine are hidden pretty well but i was thinkin and i realized that it could freeze and the bulbs could shatter. But then again headlights and tailight bulbd dont break.... so if snow isnt a problem, whats the big deal?

if they are neons... depends on how cold it gets. Here in WNY, it sometimes gets REALLY cold. (well into sub zeros) which would make the glass really really brittle. or if your driving through a few(6-8) inches of snow ,it might mess w/ the wiring. all depends on how well you have everything hidden/ weather proof.

i live in mn and I've never had a problem with the ones I had on my car last winter. They never broke, always lit up bright as hell, no problem what so ever. Just be careful where you drive and you should be fine.

thanks man, but i got a question, my kit came with alotta extra wire, would u recomend cutting the excess and then having it tight or keep it and tuck it all away, i havnt decided because once its cut off its gone. but i dont want vulnerable wires showing and sh**

I work in a freezer with fluorescent bulbs. the glass doesn't break from the cold. they might break if you have excessive moisture on them when they freeze though. if you have some sort of protection for them, it would be fine.

i had my neons on my alero for 3 years and never had an issue all winter long. driving over blue snow was cool looking

what kind of "protection" for a neon are you talking about (lol) some sort of clear guard?

Ok neons are meant to be used in all weather conditions, there is no shielding or anything you need to add on, thats why they come with a LEXAN covering over the tube itself. Do this, the wire issue, cut them to an acceptable length but give yourself some play obviously and just tie the excess down to the car so it cant snag anything,

The tubes themselves, its common sense, just dont drive over snow piles or hills, its common sense...If you jump off a hill obviously the tubesa re gonna crack, same thing, if you go over a snowhill or a higher snow pil the tubes are gonna take some abuse. So use your head driving and you'll be fine.

^ I don't deal with neon bulbs, so I didn't know they were made of lexan. Knowing that, no worries.

my blue neons used to work great....real bright. then winter came. the actual lexan itself didnt break but the neon tube inside shattered in all 4 bulbs. i'm guessing it was just the extreme cold because i always avoided the snow piles as best as I could. just my 2 cents.

if it is a good brand like optx or streetglow or ufo, they will warrenty that cuz the tubes are intact but the neons broke.
