Where is a good neighborhood where i wont get killed with property taxes? Im looking to get a 3 bedroom 2 bath with connected garage for the 100-150k range. I work downtown chicago so i dont wanna be to far from the city. Ive lived south all my life and im debating venturing north or west a bit but im clueless when it comes to the neighborhoods.

i dont think you'll find anything in that range unless you move into the ghetto's... raise the price range and you can find something better. if you wanted to go north, may i suggest skokie? i used to live there, it's north and not too far from the city (15min without traffic) i think it's like a sub that's right next to the city instead of being next to other subs (you know what i mean)
oh yeah and we used to have a townhouse there 2 bed, 1.5 bath and when we bought it it was like around your price range, but when we sold it it was going around double that. and we heard some neighbors selling for well over 220k, and thats only a townhouse!!!

Scott is right. you will not find 100-150 k around the city. If you look at real estate near the city, some bungalows start out at 220k, and that's just a bungalow. maybe try marrionette park. An old co-worker and her husband lives out there, and i dont think they paid a lot of money either. You can maybe check into foreclosure homes- which are hard to find some real nice ones, without the people messing them up, or a handyman's special. pretty much a house u have to fix up on your own.

I know nothing about Chi-town, but you're dreaming about a house near Detroit for that much. Pat's house was $150k, it's 1 story, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, no basement, 0.2 acre lot in the middle of town with a crazy ass neighbor.

well there are houses for 150 range down south of the city here, and actually ghettos will cost more because those are directly in chicago which will get ya one way or another. I dont mean to move into a neighborhood like skokie.
Ive searched some houses and ive found some for 150 that are nice but they are still south here and im kinda debating getting out of here to another neighborhood.

Damn is the cost of living that much higher in Chicago and Detroit than in Indy?
I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with 14 sq ft that I bought for 120K. I live about 10-15 minutes from downtown Indy in the suburbs

Don't move to the Philly area.
Houses in the city are going for $160's to $200's in the nice areas, but the real poopty burbs are going for $150's
2 bedroom townhome here is going for $230,000 now, I got in just in time :hide:

as already stated...ur not gonna find it....
If rockford area...u could do Belvidere, and Poplar Grove etc... or anything in Boone Co. You can get cheap poop out there.......but you are in the middle of no-where. and as far as Im concerned, Rockford is just a small city in the middle of no-where. Rockford is nuthin special. For your price range look more NW burbs like where Im at. You could find something around Lake in the Hills/Huntly/Algonquin, that area. MAYBE..lol. And its about 45-1hr from downtown pending traffic. Good luck in your search bro, I know it can be tough.

well you could rent? i used to live in the woodridge area... and the community of woodridge/ naperville/ lisle... that whole area is great... direct access to 355 and I88... and even 155.... the rent ranges weren't all that bad and i think that some of the houses were reasonable... but dupage county is the 3rd richest county in the united states.... low crime... but most of it is high priced... but it's worth a look.
