Weird noise / problem

Driving home from work this morning I hear this sound like a small motor running, and it stops as I slow down.

The noise starts between 39 or 41 MPH and stops when the car drops below 35 or so.

The noise did start again at 50 MPH, and still stopped at 35 MPH.

Could this be a hub? It sounds like it's comming from the front pass wheel, but it could also be comming from the back pass wheel. I can't really pinpoint when sound is comming from very well due to my hearing loss

If it makes that sound when you accelerate and decelerate I would say the bearing is going bad. I just had similar problem on my Aurora and it was the passenger side. It was very confusing to find where it was coming from.

Yeah but it starts pretty much at 40 every time, I would think a bearing would be doing it all the time

No, mine started at 25mph and then got louder, not whiny but a low toned whirrrrrring sound. It seemed to max out at 65 or so.

Well the car's getting Inspected on Monday, I'll have him look/listen to it.

How much is that anyway? Wheels have to be taken off the car for inspection anyway

$400 for the Aurora, should not differ much for Alero. Sucky thing is I couldn't do it myself do to work and lack of garage work space.

i dont know if this is like mine.. its a low ticking noise you can only hear from the inside (sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the dash) and its louder when in reverse, yet only audible at idling speeds or low speed acceleration (0-20 mph, ex.)

It only started doing it after my last rebuild, my dad cant place it, david swears he put it together perfectly (hey, its only the third time he's had my engine splayed open...=/) so my dad just said to drive it and see if it gets worse; and if it does he'll take it apart again. It hasnt gotten worse but hasnt gone away either.. its obnoxious!!! i have no tolerance for odd engine noise

I don't think this is comming from the engine, but I know what you mean.

Dude, no. Guess what I started getting this week. A grinding/humming noise which starts at 40 km/h and gets worse all the way to 130 km/h

$400 is Chi-town pricing, nothins cheap here if you need it done quick. May vary in your area though. Hope that makes you feel better. Good luck and hope it's something really stupid and CHEAP.

i have the same problem, i just figured it was some moving gear, because its only when its slowing down at like 50-35

Needed it done yesterday, I know I got bent over and squealed loudly. Work called and I jumped really high. The bearing price is what kills ya.

It did it only a little bit comming to work tonight, but I got a better idea of where it's comming form and it seems like it's comming from the dash behind the glovebox

I know the blower motor is back there, but I didn't have any HVAC controls on at all.

Sounds like a CD trying to eject from the radio, but it's not comming from the radio
