I think just about everybody has that problem here so if you get a good answer let me know cause I have the same problem, I put it in neutral at the redlight so it can stop shaking, but I think it does have something to do with the tranny, torque converter, or maybe even the balance shafts. But honestly Im unsure. Sorry cant help

Could it be some engine mounts issues?

if it runs just fine while it's driving it's probably a very minor issue
i bet you could straighten it out with a new fuel filter or fuel injector cleaner... also if you're in an area that has drastic climate changes some condensation remover for the gas tank wouldn't hurt it... and sometimes it's just gunk built up in the engine... fill it up with a tank of premium and take it for a few hundred miles on the highway
yeah yeah i know that's my solution for everything but i always like to start with the cheap repairs and work my way up

My uncles truck idles rough when its starting to need an oil change. I know it isnt an alero but it might as well be done anyways, wont hurt anything.

you said that you changed your plugs and wires, did you make sure you connected them correctly?

I've had only one 2.4 (quad) out of 4 or so that did not have this problem - the v6s don't seem to have this problem as much. There must be something in common that is causing the problem for all of us though.
It's a vibration when the car is in drive at a stoplight...

Yeah I am thinking firing order out of wack
and possibly the MAF prongs might be bent...I had one prong bent when I reconnected and the thing ran like a beastloud growl and real fast but maintained near 2000 rpm at stops.

1999 2.4 does the same annoying crap. I started thinking tranny mount since it only does it in forward gears. I can go into Nuetral, Park, and Reverse and it wont shake. As soon as I slip it into any forward gear it shifts a little rougher going into it and then shakes.
I am thinking the tranny mount is the one between the firewall & the engine, can anyone confirm this ?

There are, I think, at least 3 tranny mounts...

I love my Alero and has been good to me but this issue has me wanting to trade the Biatch in.

if the plugs are in the wrong order, wouldn't it be more noticeable than just a little bit of rough idle??? I"m pretty sure the computer would signal a piston misfire....
