Three Alero Problem Questions

I have had some problems lately with my alero, and before I spend an astronomical amount to get it fixed, I might try it out myself.

First question is: Sometimes my blinkers will not work, I go to turn them on, and nothing. If I wait a little bit, they work, not sure why, anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Second question is: I do not have lights on my cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. I checked the fuse and it looks good...what to try now?

Third question is : my HVAC blower only works on the last two settings, and nothing else, so I either have the minor blow as it was turned off or at almost full blast...what would case this?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks for the response in advance.

Justin

1st: Check for grounding or shorts in the wiring

2nd: I had this problem my self. Check to make sure the bulbs that are underneath the buttons are all conected to the circuit board properly. You might have to solder them back

3rd: Blower Motor Resistor

Problem 1 is possibly the infamous hazard switch

2... that's wierd... mabye the led got fried

3... blower motor resistor... search it... there's a how-to

Ive got a few LEDs out on my heater controls. I just live with it.

The cruise control on/off button is broke also. The parts a $90 ordeal. I jsut shove folded up paper in there to jam it on...

I would advise fixing the blinker deal. The rest can be lived with when you start getting labor costs for such issues...

not sure what it takes to do the hazard switch... never fixed it on mine

blower motor resistor you should be able to do for like $20 and an hour of labour

and if it's just the light that's not working on the cruise i'd live with it......

Yeah hazard is a recall on 2000+ aleros. If you have a 1999, you have the exact same faulty hazard switch, but GM decided not to replace it for us so you have to buy a new one. Luckily, it can be had as a special order from Auto Zone for about $35 after tax, and it's a 15-minute install.

I tried to get mine fixed under the so called recall! They told me it applied to all '00 model year aleros but not my alero ... they ran the VIN and said that it did not apply to mine. They suggested that i buy a new one ... freakin' stealership.

Ok, I will do some checking and see what happens. I have heard about the hazzard switch, is there anywhere that I can view recalls? Thanks again, this is why I like this place..

I've searched around on google for the recalls, but haven't come up with much. It only shows that the hazard switch was a recall in 2000. No other year. Oddly, they were still going bad 3 years later.

The new switch I got is PN 10359040. Pretty easy to change out, too. Cost me somewhere around 50 bucks Canadian.

Looks good, will have to hit up the dealership to see if they can do something about it. Thanks for everyone for helping me out. I got the air working again, but still dont know what is wrong with the cruise lights. Thanks again

When i first got my 2002 alero, i had the same problem with the turning signals not working randomly. I took it to the dealership and they fixed it for free. They told me the hazzard button was grounded causing the turning signals to not come in. It works fine now.
