What would the sound experts suggest?
Hey guys,
ok, im not very knowledgeable when it comes to sound audio AT ALL, im actually very ignorant in this feild but my question is: what type of speakers/subs/amp would you guys suggest getting for the best clarity? im just looking for something small, not going for a massive/original/expensive set up, something simple, new speakers, couple of 10" and an amp and thats about it. i dont want a system that pounds like hell cause those are damn annoying (i like to actually LISTEN to my music)
also, dont worry too much about the price range. Apparently theres a massive car audio sale going on here in Edmonton for all brands so im gonna check her out.
heres the kind of music i listen to to help you guys out.
NOTE: this is but a small fraction of bands i listen to
Metal: Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Slayer, Hatebreed, Opeth
Punk-Rock: Bad Religion, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, Dead Kennedys, Pennywise
Thanx in advance for the help.

I have infinity 4x6 up front, soundstream xts 6.9 its the back. 2x10" Fosgate He2's in the trunk. Its got some kick to it.
If i was to redo it, i'd do soundstream all the way around, w/ components upfront. Their subs can be pricey, and i have yet to find a dealer anywhere, just online stuff.

The stock fronts are 4x6. They suck, period.
To get 5.25's in you have to be handy and do some modifying and/or fabrication work. If you are not good with working on stuff like that, I would look into a set of 4" componets. Just a small birch board over the 4x6 opening with the whole cut for that small 4" woof.
If you can fabricate, you may be able to get away with using a dremel and semi-hacking up the plastic piece and adding some fiberglass to it. Or you can do like I did, make a skeleton out of wood and glass it.
I wouldnt bother with rear speakers... Actually what I would do is PULL them out to vent the trunk to the cabin.
For subs, a single 10" will do you. Maybe a pair.
Ive got a set of massive here. First time using massive. They look mighty nice. I will hopefully know how good they sound once I get the box built and into the customers car.

I would say look at eclipse, they have some nice sq subs, and also I agree that one ten would be good for you. Get you some nice components for upfront, I would get passive for you since you are just starting out. Find acouple amps that meet your needs and your set, don't really need rear fill unless you have alot of passengers back there.
Also Massive audio has some very nice equipment, Ryan did you get there CWs?

I was in the same boat as you. What worked really well for me was Boston Acoustic components in the front (Think mine were 6.5" woofs) and Boston Acoustic 6x9's in the rear. It sounded really clear. I had one 12" Phoenix Gold Sub in the trunk with a 250W RMS amp. You don't need an insane amount of power if you're just after sql

ok guys, looks like my speakers are gone for shit on me!!! lol LOTS of static (yes they are still the stock speakers) so theres my motivation to get a sound system put in.
heres a couple of questions:
1) here are the speakers im wanting to get http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc8365.html
first things first, i know i will need to get a custom plate to fit these, but would this involve cutting out some of the metel inside the panel or would a different size be better?
2) im going for a single 10" sub and again, im going for more clarity then bump, so with that in mind, heres a sub i was looking at:
http://www.eclipse-web.com/sw6000/sw6200.html
and my last question, with these and my new head unit:
http://www.clarion.com/ca/en/product...603443221.html
what would you guys suggest for the amp with this set up? i know gr1m said the kenwood, would that still be good for that set up? this is the area i have NO idea about and just want some quick input.
Thanks in advance guys!!

Ok,
The comps your looking at are a 3 way setup. You will have to undertake some fab work in your sail panels to pull it off- and at that Im positive the tweeters will be to bright/to much. It will detract from your mid undoubtedly.
The sub is fine. There are so many options and variables for subs, its no biggie.
I despise Clarion as of lately. Its like they are trying to compete with Blaupunkt for the worlds ugliest head units...
Eclipse makes some very nice decks as well. If your going eclipse, you can go eclipse all the way and pull off a nice system. Im running an EA4000 amplifier right now. Good amp for the cash.

eclipse has the best decks out there, Im runnin infinity kappa 4x6's and sony 6x9's, with 2 audibahn 10 inch subs, 1200/2 ch soundstorm amp. Amp sucks wouldnt recommend it, but yeah u dont need a lot of power to get ur shit bumpin. My trunk is dynamatted and it still raddles so yeah..

Yeah that set-up looks good. Ryan makes a good point about the 3 way components. It's gonna be a bitch to install.
You will probably have more success with these speakers: http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc6500.html
Have you decided what you are doing with the rear speakers?
I would also recommend going with an Eclipse head unit. Their decks are nice and provide the cleanest power you will find from a HU. I've had two Eclipse decks so far and they've been amazing.

i would get a eclipse deck but i already bought the clarion, only b/c it was on sale a few weeks ago for about $500.00 under its retail value and i know i wasent going to be able to find a monitor that cheap ever again (i wanted a touch screen and with all the little goodies it has so i wasent about to miss out on it)
as for the back speakers. if a sub is going back there, the speakers come out as the air pressure would cause it to make its own shitty sound and wont have that clarity im looking for but we'll see. ill keep them in for a bit after the sub is installed and if im not happy with the sound, take them out and see what its like then.
but thanx for the input guys, really appreciate it!!

I would remove and forget about the rear speakers all together.
It vents the cabin into the trunk, and as stated will get blown/distorted to all hell with a sub in the trunk and seats up.
With a good set of comps that are properly amped you will have NO desire for rear speakers.
Mines so F'in loud I got out of my car and walked 10' away and could hear it all plain as day like someone was yelling at me Ya, its that loud!

Well yeah see not having the rear speakers will give you more SPL. But the thing is if you ever have anyone sitting in the back and you're going on a trip they'll hear nothing but bass. Not just that but all your sound will come from the front so you'll have to have it up louder and will have a hard time hearing them.

More spl, less distortion and a clearer sound stage.
Drawback is the rear passengers. But who wants to hear the backseat driver anyhow??? lol

lol, my thoughts exactly. and it is a good point about the ppl that do sit in the back that will hear nothing but base, but if i were to leave the rears in, when no one is back there, route all the sound to the front and nothing in the back speakers and have the sub going and when there is someone back there, turn the sub down to a very subtle bump (not very strong at all) and equalize the fronts and the backs, lol i dunno, just a thought

lol i used to think that way...... but it seems like a pain in the ass.. i like to equalize my stereo once to right where i like it and never touch it.
i guess it's all in how you use your car... my alero was used for alot of camping trips... anytime me and buddies were going somewhere we'd take the alero b/c of the awesome mileage it got
but seriously... i'm a fan of the flexibility even if it means less on the stereo... just buy better gear and you'll be fine
