rear defroster

hey guys iv just bought an 03 gls a few weeks agao and i noticed that the rear defrost doesnt turn on, the main fuse in the engine compartment is fine i checked the voltage on both sides of it. there is no voltage at the rear window however. the light on the toggle switch turns on and off but im not sure which wires go to the switch because they all come in on 1 harness. i know that gm has a problem with the fan speed switch but i havnt seen anything on the defroster. any info on which wires it might be or any other places i can check for voltage would be greatly appreciated.

its the module thats in the c-pillar. Mine doesn't work. In fact, mine caught fire and melted the interior panel around my quarter glass. Its a normal issue with our cars.

She's right on. That's what went on my car during the winter. Moisture got into that module and fried it.

i wonder if not having the antena pluged into the sterio would cause it to not turn on. i cheaped out and didnt pay the 15$ to get an adapter for my new head unit caus i have serius radio anyway

440 same happened to me but brunt all the damn wired up to the fuse box it fing suck 15 hrs later it was all fixed screw putting that thing back in

No it wouldn't matter. Also, you'd notice that module would be the problem if you listened to AM and FM stations. It would have a lot more static. Since I rarely listen to FM and AM stations, I didn't know it was going until it took out the whole module.

i think thats my bigest grudge agenst the alero so far, everything is wired together so if 1 thing decides to go it takes down other modules and everything becomes a big mess.
and im not sure about the am and fm stations having static, when i first bought the car about a month agao it seemed fine with the stock head unit but its changed now and i dont listen to the radio.

Static is probly caused because you didnt plug the antenna booster to your new head unit. Cant remember which color for the wire though. You need to plug it to the power antenna wire on your HU.

It never affected my radio until I got my windows tinted. After that the FM is a little static-y. I don't care though... I just listen to CD's

technically that is both the B and C pillar. If you look at the side of your car. the front pillar is A, the one in the middle (between the two doors if 4 door, or after the door on a 2 door) is B, and the one that touches your rear window is C.

as of last night, i have a working rear defroster.

i did the cheap easy fix.

i soldered new leads on the module and used wire nuts.

this morning, i got to use it for the first time in a long time.

the horn will be next.
