Automatic Lights
Hey for some reason my lights come on automatic all the time. I checked my light switch and its in the off position, yet it still comes on at night. Is there a way to make them not automatic?

Don't do the Drl disable in here that tells you to cut the pin on the relay, I tried that by bending mine and it works fine when its daylight but when it is night you get a service vehicle soon light. Not a good way to do it I think.

as far as i know all of our lights do that... its supposed to when it judges it to be dark enough. Personally, i like it, and it spoils me... there is SOME way to change it but i think its silly.

to turn them on when u want to... like in rain where its not dark enough for them to come on automatically. (bc, u know, its illegal to have ur wipers going without your lights on... almost failed my driving test over that alone years ago)

I like it too. I haven't had to turn headlights on for damn near 8 years.

Yeah, do the DRL override, but that doesn't disable the automatic lights. The only thing that enables you to do at night is kick back down to just the parking lights and driving lights. They will still come on automatically when it gets dark.

damn ... this all sucks ... I have installed my HID kit and since I live on an AirForce Base we have to go through a Gate with Guards and we have to turn our lights off when coming upto the gate as to not blind the guards ... Well I have been warned several times and told them that I cannot turn them off that it is a "Safety Feature" that is installed in the car. They finally issued me a ticket last night for failing to follow a posted directive. I plan on fighting this as it took half of my base driving points away and another infraction could result in a 1 year revokation of my base driving privledges.
So in short is there any EASY way to disable the Auto Lamps? (That doesnt mean cutting or splicing wires on the BCM)

just turn your park lights on or pull the e-brake up one notch b4 you start your car, although you wouldnt want to drive a long distance but it shouldnt be very long if your just driving around on the base

thats the thing ... i cant shut the car off because I only need to turn the lights off as Iam coming upto the gate. They need to come back on after i pull away from the gate ... hence the whole Idea of having manual control of the lamps. The E-brake trick only works if the car is off so that doesnt work for me. I need something that can be done on the fly.
Maybe I will just get someone to help me find the correct wires on the BCM and just disable the damn things all together, even though i would like to make it so I have the Auto Lamps but can disable them with a switch ... anyone got an idea how to do that?

If i turn my switch from auto to parking lamps, the headlights go off.. You could also unplug your high beams and just click the switch so then nothing will be on.

The high beam thing will work, you shouldn't need them with HIDs anyhow. If you just pop the drl relay out and throw some black tape over the connector, that will work too...no bending invovled.

Did you do something to the wiring or relays or anything to make that happen? I like having automatic lights, but at times I'd like to at least turn the headlights off and just have the parking lamps on.

Nope, It does that from the factory. It might've been a change in '02? when they switched a bunch of stuff (like to the low-beam DRLs and the new style radio) You might be able to have your BCM re-flashed to work like that, but I'm not positive.

The sensor for the auto lights is under the defrost vent. Remove it but don't unhook the wires Put it in a sealed tube with a led that comes on with ignition or switch. No more auto lights. It takes I believe 10 seconds of light/dark to turn off/on the lights. I think they still need to be turned on seems like they get a touch brighter if you turn the switch.
