I Hate My effin Car (security Light)
ok so recently I've been having this problem with my security light popping out and the car not starting. I know this is an issue with all the aleros, and its really annoying having to wait 10 minutes every time just so that the car can start. Does any one a cheap method to fix this or possibly disable the security feature on the alero. Oh and btw i have remote start installed, but i don't thinks that's an issue.

If your remote start is aftermarket, there is a module that has been installed (probably under your drivers side dash somewhere) to bypass the security system. If it was not adjusted correctly and matched to your key, it will throw on the security light and you will not be able to start your car. I've installed remote starts on Alero's and Malibu's, and the bypass module is always a pain in the ass to get adjusted. Find out what brand name is installed, find their website, and get the instruction book for whatever type of bypass module you have. Recalibrate per the instructions.

....or you could put a toggle switch on the passlock II yellow wire and after starting the car flip the switch to the off position. This will cause the security system to go into disable, and will light the light, but you will be able to start the car everytime..you just have to deal with the light. Cheap fix until you can work out whats going on with the module and all. I didn't buy a module for my remote start so this enables me to start the car with it. Good Luck!

Pull the guage cluster out, and locate the tiny yellow wire leading from the ignition switch behind the ignition lock cylinder where the key goes in. Start the car, and with the engine running, cut the yellow wire and tape off the end. The security light on the guage cluster will now glow constantly because you disabled the passlock, so you can break the light in the cluster or put tape over it, your choice.

ok thank you guy. I will give this a try and keep you posted. My car used to work fine even with the remote start installed, it worked fine for 6 months until recently. I also heard if i cut the yellow wire i wont be able to start the car if the battery dies. can any one make this more clear regarding the yellow wire and the battery

id just run the yellow wire threw a toggle switch, but as with the battery dies ive never had that problem, and ive been running this car like this for almost a yr now

If you cut it and just tape the ends if the battery dies it will take the car out of fail/disable and you will not be able to start the car. If you put a toggle switch on it, and you battery should happen to die, just flip the switch to the on position and you should be good to go. Of course if you are having to wait 10minutes to start the car then you will be back in the same boat...but then once the car is started just flip the switch back off and you are good to go.....if you understand what we are saying?

I think I better explain it again for clarification.
1. You are cutting the yellow passlock II wire that runs to the ignition cylinder..I think it is run with the black wire to the ignition cylinder.
2. You are going to wire a toggle switch in between the yellow wire..so that on is the same as the wire connected and off is the same as the wire cut.
3. Once you get that done now you can put the car into fail/enable ( what this means is that the car sees a connection problem and therefore turns the security light on but enables you to start the car) you do this by starting the car with the switch in the on position, then count say 10 seconds and flip the switch to the off position..the red security light will come on.
4. Now turn the car off and restart it...it should start right up, but the red security light will be light.
5. Piece of cake!

there's actually a good howto embedded in someones awesome interior overhaul but I don't have my computer so I don't have the bookmark. It's similar to cutting the wire, goes something like this. (This is useless by the way cuz I don't have any details.)
Start car, messure resistance between 2 wires, (messure twice, cut once), cut wire. wire in POT (Potentiomter {sp} Variable resistor) in the range he mentioned, after tuning it to the right resistance, this varries by car/key. Be a happy cabbage, move beer to the "chaser" catagory.

Oh did I mention I didn't try it? My security light has been on for 2 years? I get the problem more when it's been raining. Got it 3-5 times in 2 months since I posted the computer gave up.... Haven't gotten it after that, but I have a steady security light. If you got a friend at a college with a tech 2 you can diable it. There's instructions for that too. But you can't afford a tech 2 so a friend at college who will bring it in and diable it would rock!!
I doubt most CC's have Tech2's like us but just thought I would mention it. Cuz durring summer they just want cars. Just unhook an o2 sensor and you need a code read on you gm.
Just make sure you find the diable with a tech 2 before that. and assume gm is slower than windows.

Well i don't have a tech 2 or know anyone with it, but when i first started experiencing the problem, i borrowed some thing similar to tech 2 to try and read what was wrong with the car, and all the readings were 000000, according to that device that meant that the test was inconclusive  .

Well basically I'll try not to be rude... Tech 2 is $2kUS min. It's not an OBD2. It's a GM SEX MACHINE...
Best info is from that one guy, at least 3 people know who it is. Beside me. Then there's that Tech 2 info, and then the crappy toggle switch. And I'm at 2.4.... My ride has just stopped agrueing and given up. I figure Security means, it will confuse someone long enough for me to [.use British Paratrooper Boots]
Sorry America but british boots require at least 2 pints of blood to break in.

ok so i attempted to cut the yellow wire today, but i think the person who installed my remote start already cut it.There is a switch with on off, but even when its on or off my car does not start and the security light pops up. If i turn it off the car wont start with remote start. Now you might wonder and ask why is this dumb ass smokey not just using remote start, well the answer to that question is that the effIN CAR STILL SHOWS THE SECURITY LIGHT AND NOT CRANK EVEN WHEN I ATTEMPT TO START WITH THE REMOTE START. I'm going to post some pictures of the already installed switch location. I'm not sure if i should be going there looking for the yellow wire, any help is appreciated. Its a Friday night and i cant go anywhere with my friends because I don't want my car to keep embarrassing and bothering me infront of everyone

I'm not understanding....Is the switch going to the yellow wire or not, and did you cut the yellow wire before you saw the switch? If that switch is on the yellow wire and you did not cut it again, then you should be able to put the switch in the ON position and start the car. If you try to start the car with the switch in the off position then it will not turn over. You need to clarify what you did in order for us to help you more. Sorry for your luck dude, but you didn't see this switch until now?
...try this (hopefully you didn't cut the wire again, and if you did cut it again hopefully you reattached it) put the switch in the ON position and try and start the car with the key...of course if it doesn't start wait the 10 minutes and try to start again..once it is started turn the switch to the OFF position and turn the car off. Now try and start it with the remote start...if it is wired correctly it should start right up.
