I'm surprised no one chimed in on this. FIVE SPEED 3400?? Is there any more story behind this car?

there are a few guys on the j-body forums swapping in 3400s with the muncie 282 transmission. apparently it bolts right up. i imagine you need a few custom fabbed parts, but it shouldn't be overly difficult for our cars too, just expensive.

I got it from grandamgt.com, in the performance section under something like 3400 5 speed sound or something. He explains it all there, though it is in very simple terms that make it sound overly easy.

well, now I can download it again...weird. But anyways, to further the mystery of why they filmed the speedometer doesn't work.

I can't. Upload them somewhere else if you could. Or let me know and I'll let you put them on my FTP.

got that backwards.
parts wont be much really (less than 1500)
but tons of custom fab to be involved. torque mounts and custom half shafts are only the begining.
but it will be done. its only a matter of time

^^Are you saying it would be just AS expensive as it was for the Sunfire, or it will be MORE expensive for the Alero?

i imagine the sunfire was cheaper as they didn't have to change the transmission, half shafts, or any of the transmission related mounts. all they really have to do is make mounts for the 3400, bolt it in, and wire it up (not exactly, but you get the drift). we're kind of working in the other direction.

It wouldent be overly hard to do this in a GA, just mounts and t he computer, DHP would be able to do it. Its really just mounts and linkage.

the sunfire did not come stock with a getreg/muncie 282
so they had to plant in the trans and the engine
wiring for a manual is easier than changing the engine wiring and computer over to get the sunfire to accept the V6.
the swap would be easier for us.
mount the pedals, make mounts, custom half shafts, some wiring, auto trans code delete, and reprogram the speedo.

so what do you think the costs on this would be? i was thinking depending on the half shafts and getting a decent price on the tranny, pedals, and shifter, it could probably be done in the $3000 range including machining costs and a reprogram.
