issue's with my hoe

So here the deal and im hoping its nothing big on either.

1. my gas gauge seems to dedcide on its own how much gas i have, i put 20 in and it said i have 1/4 tank then moves up and down as i drive. So i decided to see what would happen if i drove till the gas light came on, and it went to full then dropped to empty light came on and back to full? Its been consistant on the random amount of gas it shows.

2. The other day whenI tried to add gas after the light was on it spit it back like 2 gallons back out and wouldnt let the pump put any in, kept clicking like the gas was to full, drove to the next station 1mile or so up the road and filled it with 25 no problem.......

3. when im going from a stop and seems goes to 2nd it putters, when i press the gas down it goes away....if i romp from a dead stop nothing, again doesnt do this all the time....

car specs- 99 3.4 auto

so whats the deal........

1 Sounds like the sending unit for your fuel pump...it's a GM thing

3 Try a fuel pressure test out and see if something could be clogging your lines, maybe it's just a fuel filter\

1. Agree. Fuel level sending unit.

2. Could be the way the pump nozzle fits in the filler neck. I've had my ho do this at particular pumps too. Backing the nozzle out a little and filling at a slower rate (or going to another station) always solves it. I think it has to do with the nozzle being too close to a bend in the filler neck, restricting the flow a little and causing a backup. Are you sure it was 2 gallons that spilled? That is a TON of liquid.

3. Could be many things, but since you are already having issus with the sending unit, I'm guessing the pump is on its way out. Change it out when you do the sending unit regardless. Same for the fuel filter.

I suppose a clogged tank vent could cause number 2 and 3 as well. I would begin by jacking it up, crawling under and taking a good look at the vent/evap lines.
