Egt Probe

OK here's the situation

For now I just stuck the EGT probe between the heat shield and header but I want to insert it into the pipes soon.

A muffler shop quoted me $60 to do it which I think is a bit high. I can't rent a welder from AutoZone becuase my dad will freak out if I bring something like that home.

Here's my idea: I'm thinking about putting it in the elbow pipe that runs underneath the TB and MAF in the elbow before it goes to the rear headers. I was looking in Pep Boys at some exhaust sealent and wrap.

I think after drilling the hole and putting the compression nut on the exhaust, just sealing it with this sealent and wraping the rest of the probe with the wrap to advoid any leaks. This sealent claims to hold like a weld, and the wrap mealts to the exhaust to form like part of the exhaust.

Any ideas?

I wouldn't use selant and wrap on the headers, it will burn right off. I would just suck it up and weld it in or have somebody do it.

dood, that is not the best way of doing it.

$60 isn't bad for drilling hole and putting a nut on there and welding it on.

it would have the shop do it so it is done right.

EGT sounds liek a pain in the anus, cant you put your EGT next to your O2 sensor?

Well you could but either way he is still going to have to drill a hole unless he buys a 02 sim and then puts the egt probe in there. I am not sure if they are the same thread and size but it would be cheaper than 60.

oldsman is right, 60 bucks isnt bad considering where they have to weld, maybe you can talk them down to 50...........but other then that u should just pay it...........

I only get it upto 600 degrees now and I really want to get that thing up there
