Will these tires fit?

I have 205/70/R16 winter tires, I want to install them for the winter; would these tires work in my Alero?

They are over 27" tall. I doubt they would even fit in the wheel well...

Because right now I have 205/55/16 on my alero so 5 more profile size wouldn't make much of a difference right?

Do you know how tire size works? It isn't just 5 profile. It is going from 55% of 205mm to 60% of 225mm.

So going from 112.75mm to 135mm.

The stock tires size that came on aleros with 16s was 225/50/16 which has an overall diameter of 24.85in.

The tires you have now, the 205/55/16 have an overall diameter of 24.87in, so very close to stock and definately acceptable.

However, the 225/60/16s have an overall diameter of 26.62in which I can almost guarantee are still to big to fit in the fenderwell. I think we are really maxed out at 26" or a little more.

It's around that, there really isn't a need to go bigger than that though who want's fatter tires.

Today I decided to put on those 225/60/16 and see for myself if they'll fit or not, and it did, it fit in the wheelwell, I turned the steering both ways and no rubbing, no rubbing on the fender. I even drove it over bumpy roads, no rubbing either. The only thing is that from the tires to the front suspension plate there is less than a inch clearance which will become a problem. Other than that everything is fine.
