Alright.. I removed the stock intake part around the throttle body of my 2.4L to find out that there is this hose thing attached to the bottom of the rather large black thing. What is this rubber hose for? It is located between the throttle body and the engine top. Is it some kind of vacuum tube? I was wondering if that's what I could put those little filters on--the ones that are about 2 to 3 inches in diameter.

Okay.. I think I may have figured it out.. does this hose have something to do with oil quality or pressure?

If it's the one that goes to the motor and makes like an L shape. If that what you talking about then yes I just did that today. Just cut the hose after the L and put it on out of the motor. I happened to have a bolt that went in the hole on the big black thing.

Does it suck air or blow air? It feels like it is sucking air. I guess I could put a miniature filter? Those crank case breather filters? I saw some at an autoparts store that would fit it somehow.

Or.. does it HAVE to be connected to the main air intake piping like it was with stock?

I'll try to explain with a picture.. my setup is basically like this, just with cheaper parts..

The thing is.. I've been driving my car around for a little bit with no problem whatsoever. All I noticed was faster acceleration since I replaced the stock plastic thing by the throttle body. The small hose does need a filter though since it sucks air.

What is the purpose of the vacuum line? To detect air pressure coming in? For now I have a crankcase filter on it so nothing gets in. Guess I'll just grab the dremel and a hose then start modding.
