ok, so i bought that hood that someone else on here wanted to buy that was on ebay. Honestly, I had NO IDEA that anyone on here was planning on buying...I didn't even know it was an Ebay auction til after I decided to buy it. I got into an accident on tuesday, and I looked on car-parts.com for new hoods and found the CF one. Since the place that was sellin is only 2hrs from me, I decided to buy it.
Im really sorry if i ruined any plans that you guys had of copying it. If you guys still want to make copies of it...I'm with that, juss gotta figure somethin out.
well now that is all said and done. I left at 8am this morning to get the hood and got bak around 2. My bro and I installed it right away. It looks great. It attaches to the stock hinges and stock latch.
Only a couple minor scratches on the top of the hood, some on the sides(from the way the place stored it). Other than that, its in good condition. The hood is made of some kind of thick plastic, maybe poly urethane(sp)? dunno...and then the CF is just the top layer.
It basically fits onto the stock hinges...and fits fairly well. One problem deals with the part of the hood where the hydrolic on each side attachs. It's measures out to be the same as the stock hood, but for some reason the hyrdolics are too long...by about an inch, so the hood cant close with the hydrolics attached. So right now if i lift the hood up, i gotta hold it.
Another thing about the fitment of the hood. It wasn't made wide enough!...there are gaps on each side of the good...they are around 1/4 inch?....i duno, i cant remember what the original gap was....just seems larger than before. Also the front of the hood on the driver side seems to dip down a bit...so there is a gap there too.
And the last thing that bothers me bout the hood is the placement of the hood pins. The ppl that drilled the holes missed the body. So, the pins go in crooked =/....so now i gotta figure that out.
wow, this is the longest post I've ever made lol...anyway, here are pix.
The last one points out the gaps i was talkin bout....there arent any ways to fix it is there? =/

The funny thing is I also almost jumped on that as well before I found out about the auction. I ocasionaly search trough car parts.com and also stubled upon this. Does look good though and if i'm not mistaten my gaps are the same as well they justdon't show up as much caused its all one color.

Tru, it looks good...I'm glad that a board member has it (now everyone can be envious of you). The cowl is perfect, and the gaps don't seem to be anything out of the ordinary.....maybe a bit of tweaking to get the corners to fit with the fenders better.

if you are really truly are interested in helping the alero community and want to get copies made all you have to do is pack the hood up nice and good and ship it to Greg, if you want his address, i have it, and i'm sure he would pay for shipping too, if he doesn't, i will, just get some f***ing copies of this hood going.......that's my $.02

carbonwerks.com will charge 1200 for the mold and materials, then 400 per hood. a group buy would get rid of the mold costs.... if 6 ppl bought, could be made for 600 a hood. and that covers all costs, only problem is who gets the mold?
that's not horribly expensive, but could probably be done cheaper.

hey why doen't someone give their factory hood to Tru in exchange fr the CF hood. because it sounds like he baught it just to replace his old broken one. that way you guys could get your copies then later trad hoods back so Tru hs the original???????

LOL...^^ Yea, I heard about this subject but didnt pay too close attention...so anyway..You have the hood...thats cool, I congradulate you. But, I too am actually interested in this hood. Yes me, c/f...lol. You have a great oppertunity here to make the money of the hood back, and then some, and also make alot of other alero nerds(myself included) happy. So dont let this fall through. You can make history happen, so do it man. Seriosly.......
