Honestly I would just hit up Craigslist as much as possible. I Got a single 12" Type R (600w RMS) plus box and amp (albeit not greatest amp) for $160.

Since you are going to get a lot of bias when it comes to car audio, the best thing is to hear it for yourself.

If you are going to just blindly buy it because it seems like a good price, get the 12" version instead

Ya they are ok subs. But you could find 1 12 inch sub for that amount of money with a box and have more room in the trunk. http://www.audiosavings.com/products...2SQL---K1.aspx

I say subs need to be music based. I'm old and love the sound of 2 10" Poineers. Something about the reproduction from those I just can't let go of. I also dont think my hart could take the beating two 12's would give...lol

With craigslist, I just figured that there would be something wrong with them. Is that not the case?

Yea, I got mine off some 16-18 yr old kid for cheap bc it was in his parents car and they didn't like it. Perfect condition with a couple dings on the box, but not nearly enough for me to care. You just have to ask why they are selling it and like spc said, see if you can test em out.
