Getting ready to perform a full detail on my car I decided to pull out the center console to get all of those nooks and crannies. Included in this was the shift display located next to the shift knob. All seemed well until I took a sponge to it and that little bit alone started smearing the letters...Needless to say I think it is pretty much screwed. So...
1. Anyone ever do a home touch up on one of these? Certain stenciling? Type of paint?
2. The much better option: anyone have a good condition extra laying around in need of purchase or good riddance?
3. Other cool tricks? I am planning to backlight it with some LEDs this time around.

cross border shipping might suck though...

I did. The one nearby will only sell minimum of 25$ worth of crap and they go out and get it. They would sell me the whole "shift" whatever the eff that precisely means for $50 but I'm not spending that for one piece of plastic.

My cool trick was buying a Hurst dual/gate for an 80's camaro and custom fabbing it into the Alero. It is the same shifter that was used in the Hurst/Olds and 442 W-30.

I'll look into those but I don't think I'll be doing much custom fabricating. I do have LED questions but I am going to look on another thread or make one more directed to the question.
Put a blue LED bulb where the stock cubby bulb is. Problem I have is I only had about 3/4 inch of wire to connect to and when I went to strip it I accident pulled the entire coating of plastic off that little bit of wire. Soldered, covered in electrical tape but the bulb will go out with too much movement this way or that. I am thinking it is being grounded out with the entire covering being pulled off? Remedies or tricks to such a thing?
