Gas cap sticking out a bit

So its been like this ever since I got the car but I was just wondering if there is anything that I can do to fix it. Basically, my gas cap (the body coloured one) is sticking out a bit whenever it is closed. Whenever you close it it feels like there is something springing it back and it is about 1/2 inch open. Is there any way to fix this or anybody know why this is happening?

Have you made sure that the gas cap cable isnt getting in the way. I had that same problem gor the longest time then i cut the cable that was attaching the cap to the car and now the lid closes flush with the car

Bent, take it off the car and bent the little arm that holds it in place.

Very possible some one that owned the car before you might have been a little to aggressive with it and bent it. Or has the gas pump still in the tank and tried taking off. which caught the door and bent it . I have seen that too many times. Funny how people forget that they are getting gas and take off with the gas hose

Just take it off or loosen it up and reposition it

Open up the gas door....there are 2 bolts there that hold it on. Take them out then the door/arm will come out as one. Cake. edit: i want cake now...lol.
