Ok, I'm looking for the differences in Short/RAM Air Intakes, Cold Air Intakes and WAI's... I have heard a lot of rumors about CAI's that if they get wet, your engine is screwed, and your car won't pass inspection w/ a CAI in it... I am also conflicted with price, i'm not sure if i want to get a cheep K&N filter from Ebay for like... 40-60 bucks, or go for like a 1-200 dollar AEM Filter... If someone could explain this too me i would be very happy heh, thanks

Yeah if you have a cai and get water in it, you're pretty much screwed. I have a generic short ram I bought off of ebay for under 40 bucks and I love it.

As long as you don't drive through a really deep puddle that submerges a lot of the front end in water, you should be ok. You just need to be careful with a CAI. I have both a CAI and WAI, and I use the WAI durring the nasty winter months. All states have different inspection laws, but most of them don't actually look at the engine. Here in NJ, they hook up the tailpipes to a machine for smog, and they plug into the computer to see if there are any codes.

A wai is a short intake...you can see the filter and it sets up by the battery and a cai is down by your fenderwell. K&N is prolly the best filter you can get for any intake and any intake, no matter the brand, will give you ABOUT the same gains(Not very much). Like cutelilcntrygrl said, the cheap intakes on ebay work just as good as the high priced ones. Unless you have other engine mods your not going to notice that much of a gain with just an intake.

Yeah, the only state you won't pass with an intake would be California. Everything there has to be C.A.R.B. approved to pass.

i think he's talking about the whole intake which means the tubing and everything with the filter...not just the filter.

yeah, the entire intake has to be CARB approved in CA. Some companies do have that approval, and you get documentation when you buy it.

Yeah, most reputable companies have a C.A.R.B. number for their parts. In Cali, just about every aftermarket performance part has to be CARB approved for your car to pass. I do believe K&N is fifty state legal.
