I am looking at picking up an Alpine Type X 12" Sub, the SWX-1242D model...its rated at 3000watt max, 1000watt rms, and is a dual voice coil sub.....what kind of amp would be best for this sub, I was thinking a mono D block but then I got to thinking, they only have one power out so those wouldnt work? I would be putting this sub in either a ported or bandpass, which would work best? lmk thanks!

You can use a monoblock amp on a DVC sub. You don't have to have 2 connection at the amp to connect 2 voice coils. What ohm are the voice coils on that sub?

Take the positive on one of the voice coils and connect to the other positive voice coil then connect from that voice coil to the positive speaker connection on the amp. The do the same thing with the negatives and ending at the negative speaker connection on the amp. Your then running both of your voice coils in parallel for a 2 ohm final impendance. Wired like this you need to find an amp that does 1000 watts at 2 Ohms for the best match.

think this amp would be good enough to push the alpine sub?

If you wanna save a couple of buck I'd get one of these:

I've never personally used them but some friends have them and they love them.

i cant seem to pull up the manual off of alpine.com to see the specs. but i would definatly go with ported over bandpass. its very hard to tune a bandpass box, most of them end up sounding like poop because they're so hard to get correct.

1000 watts RMS may be a little overkill even though alpine says the sub can take it, do they make a 6 or 800 rms amp? you'd save some money

i would go mono block too, because there almost always class D, you want a class D because they draw a little less power. your lights will still dim, dont spend the money on a cap, spend it on a upgraded battery like a optima or scosche, or a upgraded alternator.

ok....a couple more questions....say I was to get a setup of two Alpine Type X subs (ones mentioned in first post on the thread), and to get two infinity amps....would I be best off to run the power via a distribution block from the main battery, or would it be better to get a second battery in the trunk? also im sure i need to upgrade the alternator if i put that much power into a system right?

you'll need a new alternator, my setup dims my lights pretty good and im not running a while lot of power.

i would also replace your battery with a optima or scosche gell cell battery, you dont need 2 batteries

i would also try to get 1 amp to handle both subs, they do make 1 ohm mono stable class d sub amps.

i like the american bass 1200d
