I am a new member here, I hope this is the right forum! I am going to pick up a new Alero tomorrow. The dealer has two left, a red and a white. The red is a GL1, sunroof, power seat, V6. The white is a GL2, sunroof, v6, rear disc, bigger wheels. I love the red a lot! It was my first choice, until I saw the white one was only $250 more. I like the features of the white, though. Please send some suggestions my way! I am getting it for a pretty good deal, I have wanted to get an Alero for awhile. (Getting it about 7k off sticker) I am hoping it is better than the neon that I drive right now.
White or Red?
Thanks!
Tara

IMO get the one with the options you like best. you can always change the color later.

I was kinda thinking that White is like a blank canvas! I've never owned a white car before. Tinted windows would make it look better to me probably. Thanks!

You make it sound like a $10, 5 minute job. Unless you have $2500-$4000 laying around for a new paint job then the color of the car you're thinking of buying should be taken into consideration.

Gotta say that I have always loved red cars. Something about them just looks good to me. Are the rear disc brakes/traction control/16" wheels that much better?
If the red one only had those options I don't hate the white, I do like it. I just don't love it like the red. Lol, this is the biggest decision that I have had to make in awhile! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

I had the same problem except the red one was a 2.0 5 speed with the same options and the white one has the rear disks with the v-6 I wanted the red one because it was a 5 speed but could not afford it because it was $3000 more so i bought the white one and i like it but white is hard to keep clean. but every one has red and cops seem to see red easer

I've definitely been going back and forth on this. I am glad to have found two Aleros left to choose from They have a loaded black one left, too, but it is another $1000. That one is out of the question. I've been over at that dealership all week (while they are closed) trying to see what my gut tells me. It tells me nothing yet, lol, except when I am thirsty or something. Usually I am good at making decisions. The white one has the neutral or natural interior and the red one is pewter.
I know the GL1 red one it was extra for the v6, and seems like the GL2 must have come standard with it for that price. Both have spoilers, the red one has a few chips in the paint already. The white one has a small decal on the side, it doesn't look too bad.

um.. I never said the color shouldn't be taken into consideration. He likes BOTH colors, pick the one that offers the most.
Anyway, I've always been of the opinion your car should be comfortable to you. If you get less options because you like the color, you just might end up regretting your purchase.

Go with the red, not only is it a nicer color, but white is as bad as black to keep clean. If you plan on painting the car in time, then go with the white, I'll NEVER go back to drum rear brakes again. I personally would go red on this one...either way you'r screwed via the LIMG leak, so go with the nicer color.

LIMG leak? Is this the intake leak I have read about? I don't really want to have to paint the car someday, I would rather leave it alone if possible. I'm a real neat freak about my cars, I like them spotless
I will tally up the responses tomorrow morning before I leave to pick it up, and hopefully I'll make a freakin choice soon! Decisions, decisions....
Is the traction control a plus as far as the white one goes? Or is it reliable?
Thanks!

go with the red, most def. i have a personal thing against white cars. sure it is like a blank slate, but it is so.. plain. also silver cars, cuz the silver fades really bad. the red just makes it look like a different car, it is hard to explain. back at the high school there used to be a red and a white alero that parked next to eachother, and the red, even tho it was 4 door, outshined it by far. you can always change the wheels for cheaper than painting a whole car

go white for several reasons.... one red is more expensive on your insurance for a couple of reasons one the paint is more expensive if you wreck it and to people seem to get pulled over more by cops in red cars. its proven. second reason to go white if you get a whole lot more upgrades for only 250 more then go for it cause trying to go out and upgrade this stuff later will be more expensive and twice as much as you could have already gotten it.

the traction control is great unless you're on a dyno and forget to turn it off!

it is a tough choice though. it is proven that colors invoke certain responses, like yellow makes you hungry (i think) and red alludes to speed, being fast, whatever. (psych major) So, if a cop isnt using the speed gun and you are speeding a bit (borderline) the car may look like it is going faster than it really is and he will be after yaz. =-P But the white one does have the traction control, which i like ALOT on my 'lero. This is hard for me to say, but go with white and promise us you will dress it up a bit so it doesnt look granny. pinstripe the tails or something =/ There are many good looking white aleros on this site. But blue is still the best, imo. =) lol.
