i keep forgetting to write this review of my horrible experience with "the wonderful muffler man" on rice street, st paul, so here it is
i brought in a magnaflow muffler to this shop. all i had done was the stock muffler cut off, this one welded on. i told him, if possible i want one tip to stick out farther than the other, like stock. so it follows the curve of the bumper, and i showed him while my car was on the rack
well he gets done with my car and pulls it out. i was in a hurry to go, and he says he got the tips to curve with the bumper perfectly and it came out really nicely. so i get to my gf's house, take a look at it...the tips and muffler come out at a angle. like the tips were on the muffler strait, but the whole thing was at like a 20* angle. the tips actually fanned out a little. it looked like absolute crap, wasn't level. i was embarresed to drive my car it looked so horrible, everyone that saw it agreed, and said "you paid for that?" so i called him today and told the lady that awnsered it wasn't what i wanted, and she said to come back in.
well i get there and as soon as i walk in the door, the guy (im 99% sure he's the owner) snaps at me "whats wrong with the exhaust, i did it exactly how you wanted it" i said no, i wanted it to be strait, just one out farther. he said thats what i did. we started to argue, and i told him ive NEVER seen anycar with the complete exhuast comming out at an angle. he said lots of cars did, as he pointed to a full size pickup, which is obviously not even relevant, as trucks have side exhaust, NOT cars. after we argued, he wanted to charge me to "redo" it all. i already paid this loser $65 for 20 minutes of hackass work, and im not paying him again. we continue to argue, and he brings it in. when he pulls it out the tips were strait
BUT what he did was heat up the whole muffler and bend the tips while on the muffler probably by hand or pry bar. because the back of the muffler is all burnt and black. it was a polished stainless muffler. the tips were burnt a little, and there were ALOT of spots of weld splattered all over the tips and muffler, some of which i was able to remove. and the hanger he put on the muffler was a old L bracket that he just tacked onto the side of the muffler and gobbed on the weld, wasn't hidden at all, it was actually on the lower part of the muffler, so very noticible
so anyways, i finally get to the point about 2 months later where i want to take it all off. 1 shop told me it was hacked so bad they wouldn't touch it, only replace it all for like $700, or a custom setup for like 200. another shop said they'd never seen such shody work, and didn't believe me when i told them a shop did it, they thought i did it. they also said it wasn't fixable, it was all hacked, the exhaust no longer followed the stock channeling, hung down to the point of it being no more than 1-1.5" off the ground (cars on springtech springs too) they said they could put the muffler on, but wouldn't garentee it wont leak, and they cant get the resonator any higher up
so if your looking for the cliff notes, NEVER EVER go to "the wonderful muffler man" on rice street, st paul mn.
if your looking for a good shop, im posting a pt 2 on a shop that actually knows what they're doing
