Fan Not Working??

I dont think that my fan is working...........My car gets hot when it is at a stand still and when I leave it running and the hood is up the fan never kicks on...........Has anyone had this problem with their cars and if they have please send some suggestions my way please

It normal, you just need to flush the coolant from your system. I notice the same and when I drianed the coolant. It was not green but brown, like the rust brown. After the flush is cools beautifully. And my A/C is cooler too. Dunno why or how flushing my radiator helped but it helps.

i dont think the fan comes on at all unless the A/C is turned on, or if you have a switch to turn the fan on. also there is a fuse under your hood, that can blow, that controls the fans from turning on and off. i forget what its called, i wanna say blower motor resistor but i doubt thats it.

yeah thats not it, that under the footwell and controls the airflow.

The coolant should not affect the fan operation since its a sensor based on temp that turns the fan on/off. But i guess if the coolant isn't transfering heat the sensor would not heat up....

DUDE the fan come on whant the engine gets hot. OTherwise it would overheat in traffic all the time. THe thing under the hood would probably be a fusible link, not sure if we have one for the fan.

If the fan does not come on and the car overheats. It could be a temp sensor, or a relay. Try turning on the a/c and see if it comes on. Does the car actually overheat while sitting there?

It doesn't overheat to the point of reaching the red line(at least I will not let it, I turn the heat on High if it starts to heat up) But it never did this before a couple months ago.............It even smells hot at times

coolant flush could help....i know my 2.4 in traffic will run hot...up to the line after the halfway mark...probly would go higher, but i turn on the heat too...

gonna be doing a coolant flush/colder t-stat...i'll let you know if it helps any

Ok thanks a bunch guys!!! I really would like to solve this mystery without having to spend millions of dollars to just have someone look at it......................Also I changed my thermostat whick almost requires a radiator flush and it do nothing to help my problem

My ecotec does that to warms up really hot at lights, but it's never got to much above the middle line so i've never turned my heat on to help it and i've never heard the fan turn on...

So i dunno what to assume. But I've never heard the fan turn on on my car. and it's only got 20,000km's.

If you changed the thromo, the car isn't getting hot enough to kick the fans on. I has a 180 degree one and my fan rarely kicks on.

If it stays off past the 1/2 way mark and the fans don't click on, get it checked out

That is what it does...............stays off(or at least I assume it does)past the halfway mark............

I believe that this is a problem that runs through all of the Aleros. It probably is caused by the poor airflow to the radiator. This problem occurred with my 3400 also, and first thing that I thought was the thermostat. So, I replaced it with a colder thermostat, but the fan still did not come on. I checked the fuse for the fan, and it was fine, so I just straight wired the fan to a switch. This keeps it just a little above halfway even in traffic, but I still would recommend a flushing.
