Yes they are cool. I always luved em. I recently got rid of them tho. Vynil is an answer, or you can shave them off and french in some other kind of taillights. But that requeirs extensive and pricey body/fab work.

Here is what you should do, if you can find enough lights and are good with fiberglass/metal work.

yeah i looooove my tails. The red contrasts nicely with the blue.. and when pplz are like, whats an alero?? you can say "that car with the big bug eye tails" and they are like oooohhh!!! yeah! lol. Its what sets it apart from other generic lil cheap cars in its class. If you wanted small lights or crap that will blend in and be like every other car on the road then you shoulda bought a civic. lol
-note: no offense to yous guys with shaved tails!! i, personally, dont like it, but i understand you wanna do somethin different or whatever, so have at it. just stay away from my car!!!!!! i dont want it looking like a neon or w/e :P

^ seriously, I think someone would have to have lived under a rock for the last 8 years to NOT know what an Alero is. I know 16 year-old girls that are like "I want an Alero!" (girls at work...somehow I get to talk to them... and I DON'T work that angle...they're just too damn young. Take a lesson from me Marc!)
As for the tails, mild tinting is pretty cool. search for "VHT nite shades" on http://froogle.google.com for the cheapest site that sells 'em. This is not reversible if you don't like the results (except if you buy replacement lights...which would be a sucky situation). Think about it like a tattoo on your car. Nothing is permanent, but this can last a long damn time and will be expensive to go back to original.
or if that ain't your bag, you can give pinstripes a try. (a bunch of people have tried them. it seems as if only the chrome stripes and black stripes STAY on the car, because of opinion. they look alright for a while, then you might get sick of 'em. good thing this is cheap and reversible.)
or you can cover the whole thing in vinyl with whatever shapes you like cut out to let light through. This is another reversible mod, but is a bit more expensive.
and for the advanced skill, shaving/molding and then painting. not too many people have done this, but the few who did, did a fantastic job. definitely worth checking out.
That's all I can think off right now.

maybe they think you're saying "a Nalero" ?? Cuz when you're talking, it could sound like that, I guess.

I have the same problem, I tell somebody that i drive and alero and they most of the time say say what the f*** is an alero.
Tinting the tails looks good but permanent so unless your sure pinstrip them or vinyl them.

vinyl is a good way to keep something different. Plus you can always change the design.

Guess what the people in the Netherlands say when I say Alero.
There's probably sold 10 in total.
Which is of course no surprise with our fuelprices, supposedly currently the highest in Europe or even the world!!!
Paid Euro1.56 per liter last weekend )98 octane)
Now my conversion skills are slightly rusty so if anybody feels like translating....
Another thing, that bothers me, is that the Oldsmobile Alerowas sold in Europe as a Chevy Alero.
And since january Deawoo (south Korean brand) is sold overhere as Chevrolet, So saying I drive a Chevrolet Alero makes people think I drive a korean car, no offence, but if I wanted a Deawoo, i probably would have bought one !!
So, the front is already rebadged to Oldsmobile, but the rear still has to be done.
I'm still looking for the small logo to go on the trunklid. Anybody??

Daewoo is owned by GM as are a lot of "foreign" brands.
