I've been thinking about getting a rack for my alero. I'd need one that would work w/ the sunroof. I do a lot of boardsports and the trunk and backseat are a PITA to keep anything in. sooo, reccomendations? I saw a guy with a silver coupe GLS with a thule rack and a windbreaker on the front, looked real clean.

yeh i would love a nice bike rack for the roof... the trunk mounted ones wouldnt work with my spoiler, since i read once that they already are right on the stock one. I dont know where that thread is or if it had any good info on this in there... Sorry i dont mean to hijack your thread, but i have been meaning to ask a similar question for a while.
roof bike racks for alero?
do they have generic ones that will fit with slight modification on many cars, or are they custom made for one certain car (like, the Alero?)
but yeh i would love one. They do look real nice, too, with the windbreakers and all!
I have seen a couple aleros with trunk racks on campus.. but never a roof one.

thank you joel...handled...
If I remember correctly, somebody on the site has something mounted on the roof of their alero. I'm trying to remember who it is and I'll try to do some searching, but it is possible.

a roof rack I thought would be performance not appearance? whatever, I dont care.
anyways. I did some research last night and came up with this if anyone is interested.
There are two main brands of roof racks Thule and Yakima, both have systems that work with the alero (2dr & 4dr)
the Thule ( www.thule.com) system is:
-400xt Aero Foot Pack
-LB50 Load Bars
-2057 Fit Kit (specific to the alero)
-871 Fairing kit (optional for looks and noise reduction)
cost directly from thule is $232 and w/ fairing $287
the Yakima ( www.yakima.com) system:
-Q Towers
-48" CrossBar
-Q14 Clips (specific to the alero coupe)
-Q28 Clips (specific to the alero sedan)
-38" Fairing (again...optional)
cost directly from Yakima is $205 w/ fairing it's $255

I've got a set of Saris load bars and clips for the Alero.
I also have two upright bike mounts.
I need to sell that stuff!
I also had a Saris Bones trunk rack. (The best trunk rack out there, IMO) It worked fine with the spoiler, plenty of clearance.

It was considerably cheaper than the Thule or Yakima system at the time that I bought it.
I think you can find the load bars for under $200 for the pair new. The clips are probably $12-15 a pair. (You need two pair) .
Then add a carrier for whatever you need to haul around, bikes skis, kayak, cargo holder etc....
My upright bike mounts were about $125 a piece.
There are pics of it in this thread--- Voodoo's roof rack in Wisconsin

almost helpful boss..... but I live up north, and I like to snowboard in the winter and I like to wakeboard in the summer and my alero coupe is too small to hold that poop and still carry passengers. So I like something that is functional, and not just there for looks. Plus these aftermarket roof racks are removable. SO....I still have a clean looking car when I want it.
I actually think when you get a fairing kit with the roof rack they don' look too bad, its sporty.
