Question about interior.

Does anyone know if you take the vinyl off the dash and door panels how well the plastic holds paint.

Assuming you can get all the vinyl and padding off and glue, the plastic is actually textured so you will probably want to sand it, but paint would stick well. However, most of your vents and trim are not going to fit correctly when you go to put it back together because you just took off like 1/4in. thickness off of your dash and the vinyl is pulled all the way behind your vents and then glued really well. (Hopefully what I am saying makes sense to you, my dash is fiberglassed so I know how all the pieces go together and how you have gap issues after you remove the vinyl and padding).

if you pull that vinyl off, not only will the vents "not fit perfect" they wont fit at all to be honest.

one of my friends redone the interior of his 300zx. He pulled all the carpet that was in place on the doors and everywhere (strange that there was carpet all over the dash) and made some vinyl pieces out of them by taking the shapes of all the carpet pieces

Take a look at his Cardomain page : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2479846 and look the third page for the difference btw before and after.

YEa i figured that about the vents and other stuff.....A little glass work for me then i guess.

What i was really worried about was how well that plastic would hold paint.

Thanx

If the plastic was perfectly clean and smooth it would hold the paint, it is probably more of an issue to get the plastic to hold the fiberglass (make sure you drill holes in dash and sand very thoroughly with like 60 or 80 grit before you start glassing).

if your just going to touch it up you cant use glass. youll have to use plastic repair(which still probably wont work). if ur gonna glass the whole thing, gotta drill a bunch of holes and rough the hell outta it.

whiteliquid .. by rough joel mean, use a air grinder or electric grinder w/ 36 grit. but don't burn though the plastic. LOL

^ if I remember correctly, is that so it will actually stick, because glass doesn't stick to plastic well?

dumbing it down....makes it easier for n00bs to understand....lol

I may just leave it the way it is....Im to lazy to take off the old paint and just re-paint it. And dont really have the time to dedicate to glassing it right.

Doesnt look bad....its just not "show worthy"
