xm radio

so i got a xm radio i put it in my head liner all good looking but i snipped off the 12v thing and was gonna hard wire it hooked it all up and no power ah!! so what do u guys think all the grounds r god and power connection is good ....

well it could be a regulated 12V product, or have very tight tolerences, and if your car is putting out ~14.4V... you might be screwed, i worked at a radio shack i saw that acouple of times.

You do know they make hard wire kits right? No snipping involved, and it comes with an inline fuse, eliminates alternator whine, and more importantly it takes the voltage down to 6v which is what I think most of them run on. The cord is like 9feet altogether. LOL!

you can't hard wire it without the little electronic thing on the lighter thing. I believe it puts it down to 5 volts.

I had a friend that fried his radar detector this way lol. Hard wired it...instant smoke.
